Let’s dive into the point guard rankings for the upcoming season, which are broken down into 9 tiers. Depending on the size of your league, some of these may not be relevant at all to you… especially when it gets into tiers 7, 8 and 9. Keep a close eye on guys in these tiers, however. There is some fantasy keeper league potential for a few names in particular.

Keep in mind that these fantasy basketball point guard rankings are being shared through the lens of a standard rotisserie league, including turnovers as a category.

Tier 1 – The truly elite fantasy point guards

Tier 2 – The almost elite fantasy PG options

Tier 3 – Great fall-back options if you miss on Tier 1 or Tier 2

Tier 4 – Tons of upside but injuy-prone, playing-time concerns or statistically-flawed

Tier 5 – Pretty steady producers, but not the complete package

Tier 6 – Where the value starts showing its colours

  • Rajon Rondo, Bos PG (Really tough where to rank him… I put him in tier 6 because the injuries just seem to keep on coming, so even with < 65 games played, he should have more value than the below.)
  • Darren Collison, Sac PG
  • Jeremy Lin, LAL PG (Not getting enough love… he should surprise this year and have a really solid season.)
  • Jose Calderon, NY PG
  • George Hill, Ind PG (Like him to have a lot more value than most expect in Indy this year.)
  • Reggie Jackson, OKC PG
  • Trey Burke, Uta PG (He has a really good chance at surprising and delivering top 20 value… but I’m not quite that confident to rank him there just yet.)
  • Elfrid Payton, Orl PG (So many tools, should be fun to watch and own. Don’t expect any 3s or a FT% over 65% from him, however.)
  • Patrick Beverley, Hou PG (Safe option to help fill your roster – will get steals and probably average close to 5 assists a game, but less than 12 points.)

Tier 7 – These start to matter when you’re looking at deep league options

Tier 8 – Talented and will have spurts of value – the question is when (again, deep league only)

Tier 9 – Will be useful at some point in time over the course of the year

  • Marcus Smart, Bos PG
  • Norris Cole, Mia PG
  • Shabazz Napier, Mia PG (I’m loving how things are shaping up for him. You don’t need to spend more than $1 on draft day in an auction league – but also can probably let him stay on the FA wire for a little while if you need the roster spot. If he finds a way into 25-30 minutes, which I expect will happen by late November, his value skyrockets. Particularly good target in dynasty and keeper leagues.)
  • Nate Robinson, Den PG
  • Gary Neal, Cha PG
  • Louis Williams, Tor PG
  • Isaiah Canaan, Hou PG (A late addition to the list, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a decent amount of him this season. Patrick Beverley is great defensively, but prone to injury. Canaan is a name to keep an eye on in deep leagues.)
