We’ve got some afternoon ball today! Here’s a look at our picks for today’s DFS

P Marcus Stroman ($6,600): Stroman has looked real sharp in 4 of his last 5 starts – and is a very good value play in the pitcher slot.  At just under 8 k’s per 9 innings of work, I’m rolling the dice with him for $6,600 today vs. Boston.

C Kurt Suzuki ($2,500): Suzuki got the day off yesterday, which means he should be in the lineup when the Twins face Hector Noesi today.  He’s still swinging the bat well and should be a good, safe bet for positive points.

1B Dan Johnson ($2,200): I know what you are thinking – you went cheap on SP, and now have gone cheap at C and 1B?!?!? Johnson has been an OBP machine since his recall – and for the price, I like him to chip in with 3-5 points today while it lets us load up the rest of our lineup.

2B Brian Dozier ($3,900): I like the matchup vs. Noesi for Dozier.  He is often a boom or bust type of guy – but I’m happy to lock him in vs. Noesi today.

3B Adrian Beltre ($4,100): Beltre loves hitting off Brandon McCarthy (14-33 with 2 HR), and is fairly cheap due to not doing a whole lot in his last five games.  I like him to have a good chance at breaking out today against a friendly foe in McCarthy.

SS Alexei Ramirez ($2,900): Alexei has swiped 4 bags in his last 10, and has hit in 7 of the last 10 games.  I was looking for a moderately priced SS today, and Ramirez fits the bill.

OF Hunter Pence ($4,100): I’m continuing to ride with Pence.  He has been hitting the ball all over the place out of the all-star break, and today he faces lefty Cole Hamels, who hasn’t given him any trouble over his career.  Continue to ride the hot bat.

OF Jose Bautista ($3,700): Bautista looks to be coming around with back to back two hit nights – including a HR last night.  He often hits his HR’s in bunches – so we’re looking closely to see how he’ll fair vs. De La Rosa today.  It’s not often you get Bautista in your lineup for less than $4,000 – so take advantage while you still can.

OF Giancarlo Stanton ($5,000): I like the matchup for Stanton today vs. Harang.  He doesn’t have an extensive track record vs. Harang, but if I were to bet on someone hitting a HR today – my $ is with Stanton.

Other Notes

  • Don’t be swayed by Ryan Howard‘s career line vs. Tim Hudson.  He is not in the starting lineup today despite hitting 22-67 with 7HR in his career vs the Giants RHP.
  • Anthony Gose swiped two more bags last night and was one of my picks last night.  Not rolling with him today because I’m taking my profits at this point(he reached twice via HBP).  I wanted some safer plays from my cheap players, and wanted to spend significant cash on my OF, but if you are looking for a value OF, he is $2,400 today on FanDuel – and is always a threat to run.  The problem is – you can’t steal first base.
  • P Garrett Richards is averaging over 17 points per game in his last 9.  Next to Kershaw, you could make an argument that Richards is pitching as well as anyone in baseball.  Detroit should be a good test for him today.
  • Phil Hughes ($7,100) has not looked great his last couple times out.  Saying that, for those looking for the 4 points for a W, I like his chances to pick it up vs. Noesi today.
